Welcome, SUNY Buffalo State Class of 2021!
First-time college students admitted to Buffalo State for the fall 2017 semester who have decided they want a major different than the one listed on their admissions application will need to complete Buffalo State's change of major/minor form, have it approved by their desired/new department chair, and submit the completed and approved form to the Registrar’s Office. Students must seek academic advisement from their new major department and may need to update their fall schedules for their new major prior to the start of the semester.
Please note that e-mail summer change of major request process ended on July 28, 2017.
The following major restrictions pertaining to first-year students:
Majors that do not accept first-year students but have alternate major or pre-major placement: Business Administration (BSA), Business and Marketing Education (BME), Computer Information Systems (CIS), Criminal Justice (CRJ), Forensic Chemistry (FRC), Painting (PTG), Photography (PHO), Printmaking (PRT), Sculpture (SCL), and Social Work (SWK). Note, if a student is requesting an education major but does not meet the minimum high school grade point average, the student will be placed in the appropriate education pre-major.
Majors that may accept first-year students after departmental review/approval and/or entry prerequisites are met: Art Education – Pre-K to 12 (AED), Art History (ARH), Arts and Letters (ALT), Childhood Education (CED), Early Childhood and Childhood Education – Birth to Grade 6 (ECC), Early Childhood Education – Birth to Grade 2 (ECE), English Education – 7 to 12 (ENS), Exceptional Education (EXE), French Education – 7 to 12 (FRS), Individualized Studies (INS), Mathematics Education – 7 to 12 (MTS), Mathematics Education – 7 to 12 with 5 to 6 extension (MTX), Music (MUS), Music Education – Pre-K to 12 (MUE), Physics Education – 7 to 12 (PGS), Physics Education – 7 to 12 with 5 to 6 extension (PGX), Social Studies Education - 7 to 12 (SSS), Social Studies Education – 7 to 12 with 5 to 6 extension (SSX), Spanish Education – 7 to 12 (SPS), and Television and Film Arts (TFA).
Majors that do not accept first-year students: Speech-Language Pathology (SLP).
