New Student Convocation is the first formal event of each academic year and serves as the official welcome for all new students entering Buffalo State, State University of New York.
Convocation, from the Latin words meaning "to call together," has been used to describe a ceremonial assembly of members of a college since the fifteenth century.
The event provides Buffalo State’s new students with the opportunity to hear from President Katherine Conway-Turner, as well as meet fellow classmates and faculty. It signifies the beginning of a student's journey into Buffalo State’s world of academia, just as Commencement observes the completion of studies at Buffalo State for our seniors.
Buffalo State’s annual New Student Convocation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017, as part of “Orientation 102: Academic Welcome Day.”
There will be two convocations held on August 25 in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall with a simulcast in the Bulger Communication Center.
Students from the School of Arts and Humanities and the School of the Professions will participate in convocation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and students from the School of Education, the School of Natural and Social Sciences, and students who have not yet declared a major will participate in convocation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This event requires the enthusiastic participation of our campus community to succeed.
