The "Success Express" First-Year Summer Academy is a program that offers a one-week transition to college experience for incoming first-year undergraduates that is scheduled for the week before the start of the Fall semester. The academy is by invitation only and space is limited.
The Summer Bridge program offers a number of benefits:
credit-bearing course at no additional tuition cost
early residence hall move-in for residential students
college-level academic skill building and goal setting
connection to campus and developing a social network
support of peer mentors, faculty, and staff that carries through the first year
"Success Express" First-Year Academy Details:
Commuter students are encouraged to participate in the Academy to jump-start their connection to Buffalo State and their classmates.
Academy participants who will be living on campus will be given the opportunity to move into their room assignments early, on Monday, 8/20/18. If you have not already applied for on-campus housing by the time you are signing up for the Academy, please be sure to submit your housing application immediately.
The Academy begins with dinner on Monday, 8/20/18, and runs through the end of the day on 8/24/18. Orientation 102 events on 8/24/18 are part of the Academy.
Students will be in Academy events from approximately 10 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (8/21-23/18). Homework will be required during the Academy week.
Additional Academy activities, such as contact with peer mentors, check-ins with Academy faculty, and social opportunities, will be scheduled throughout the 2018-19 school year.
There are no additional tuition, housing, or meal costs for participating in the Academy.
Invited students have been contacted via their Buffalo State email and must sign-up for the Academy by the deadline in order to participate. Academy space is limited; students will be enrolled in the Academy based on the date they signed up, until the program is filled.
