Once accepted to Buffalo State University, every new, first-time freshman is assigned a Professional Advisor. Some departments also choose to connect students with major (faculty) advisors in their first year. As a result, every incoming, first-time freshman will have one or more advisor listed in their Bengal Success Portal (BSP), Banner account, and Degree Works. Each advisor will provide academic guidance, help you select your courses, and assist you as you adjust to life at our university. Once you earn 59 credits (generally, end of your sophomore year), you will transition to a faculty advisor, who will provide further guidance on specific career possibilities and postgraduate options.
New undergraduates entering Buffalo State University during the summer 2023 or fall 2023 and later must complete the General Education 2023 (GE 23) program. Each student must complete a minimum of 33 credit hours of courses approved as GE 23 courses. Please visit the General Education Program (GE 23) website for additional information.
